Week 3a Weblogs

Task

To create a blog.


Steps

  1. Type in Blogger.com in your search.
  2. Click 'Sign In' at the top right. 
  3. Choose to sign in with Gmail or Blogger.
  4. Go to 'Settings' and fill in necessary information, such as Title, Description, Username. 
  5. Begin blogging. 
  6. Create a first page that will welcome users to the blog. This is done by clicking the pages or post option to the left. 
  7. Click 'New post' or 'New page.'
  8. Begin writing/ blogging.
  9. Add a picture by clicking the picture icon at the top of the page and uploading it. 


Challenges

Unfamiliar with the website and inexperienced with blogging.


Solutions 

Practice, Perseverance and Patience! Explore the entire site and click different links.


New Discovers & Benefits

I now have a blog and am able to create pages with information and pictures.


Results

This can be used in the classroom to upload information, videos and pictures informing and helping students with content of topics.




Week 3b Weblogs

Tasks

Continue blogging:
  • add first week's reflection to blog
  • add an author who has the right to post & comment 
  • bookmark blog
  • customize blog
  • inserts: text, video, audio

Steps
  1. To add a Gadget look to the left side under your blog's name.
  2. Click whichever option is desired-Post, Stats, Comments, Earnings, Pages, Layout, Theme, Settings.
  3. Go to 'Pages or Posts.'
  4. Select 'New Page or New Post.'
5. Add title of page.
6. Write reflection.
7Add different designs by clicking options directly above the reflection to insert coloured Text,            Video Audio, Image, Link.
8. In order to edit reflection click options above to the right on the heading.
9. Click 'Preview' to see how the blog would appear to viewers, 'Save' to store it in private for further      editing later, 'Publish' to post so anyone either Facilitator or Course-mates can view.
10. Go to 'Settings' on the left side.
11. Scroll down and under the heading 'Permission' click 'Add Author.'
12. Type in desired author's e-mail address.
13. Wait for confirmation.

14. Explore blog to learn about customization.
15. Click the 'Theme' tab on the left side.
16. Click 'Customize.'
17. Begin redesigning (change colour of font, theme, layout, size, background and more).


18. In order to change template, Click 'Layout' on the left side of the page.
19. Edit however desired.



Challenges
  • Deciding how to layout the information
  • When a co-author was added I faced problems in commenting on their blog

Solutions

I explored my blog and tried different options. However, I still cannot figure out how to comment on my co-author's blog.


New Discoveries & Benefits

I can type out a reflection on the blog, upload pictures and change the entire layout of the blog to further personalize it. I can have co-authors  give their thoughts and opinions on my blog. I also learnt how to screenshot on a computer (it varies on different devices).


Results

I will attempt to design my blog in a creative, helpful and fun way and regularly check in with my co-authors.
